An archeological dig in 2010 uncovered Bury St Edmunds Bronze Age origins. In addition they uncovered Roman artefacts. The city was a royal borough on the Saxons and acquired its name because of it being the burial put of King Edmund The Martyr, who was killed with the Danes in 869.
